Summerville's Infrastructure Struggles Amid Population Boom

Summerville, South Carolina, is booming—and with all that new tax revenue being generated, you'd expect major improvements to the infrastructure. Yet, despite the increased funding, traffic here feels worse than ever. Maybe it’s just growing pains. But unless the main arteries are expanded, congestion will only get worse.

Jedburg and 78

There already enough room for a traffic circle. At minimum, we need a leading greens in all directions?

Dawson Branch and 78

Need leading greens in all directions! Don't let all that green fool you. If you are trying to make a left from Orangeburg to 78, you may wait a couple of light cycles. During rush hour if you try to make a left from 78 to Orangeburg you might have to wait a long time on the pile of cars coming from Ridgeville.

Orangeburg and Mallard

This needs to be a traffic circle. Currently, it's planned for just updated right turn lane onto Orangeburg from Mallard and from Orangeburg to Butternut, this will help but make traffic worse eventually for those traveling straight on Mallard and Orangeburg. There will be no relief for people turning left from Mallard, which backs up for a few miles..

Orangeburg and Central

This traffic will back up past the traffic circle if you are headed towards the Knighville area. God help you if you try to travel this area during school hours. What a great time to improve the area in front of CVS!, make a right hand turn lane from Orangeburg to Cental, help keep flood waters out of the CVS parking lot.

Dawson Branch and Jedburg

I'm assuming there will be some traffic lights here soon. Trying to make a left onto Jedburg takes around 10 mins during peak hours

Central and Boone Hill

New problem from the combination of the opening of the Berlin G extension and the new light at the Ponds. Almost impossible to make a left from Central or from Boone Hill

Many dollars are being spent on this new intersection and so far, no leading greens.

Yep, no leading greens
